The Good old days
57another world
I used to hear the old folks talk about the good old days.As they told their stories of walking 2 miles to school, Only having 1 pair of shoes, ect. I thought what was so good?
I laugh now, growing up in the 50's-70's was another world to what life is for children today. There was a blue law in North Carolina that nothing opened on Sunday. Most people had Sunday dinner, went to church and just rested. Most moms stayed at home and most familiies had a mom and dad.
There were no pagers, cell phones, cordless phones,pc's.mp3.s.No reality tv. We had the lone ranger, heehaw, lawrence welk, cartoons were like gumby, deputy dawg, tom and jerry, bugs bunny and johnny quest.
I know all the kids today would think it a horrific thought but we didnt have video games either..And when they did finally come out it was tennis you moved the line to hit the ball that went back and forth.
But with all that said, there was not as much crime, you could feel safe, nobody locked their doors, nobody abused their kids,People talked to their neighbors. Everyone knew one another and people helped each other.
Children played together outside with out fear of pediphiles. They wern't obese because they played tag, hide and seek, red light green light. There was not much fast food mcdonalds came and people ate it occasionally, most people ate 3 meals aday at home.
Most of the food we ate we grew and we canned or froze it. Every one else did too. So just so I get to say it these were the good old days, and I know the young ones of today think it sounds like a night mare.
While we didnt have the technology and things of today, we were happy and our parents weren't over worked and financially stressed.
Not that life is bad today....These days will be your good old days and your kids will listen to the night mares you tell them about.
It is good to tell them about it, that way its not forgotten.

In my time when you went to the doctor's they would give you a hand gun and a bucket if they needed a blood sample from you. Both of those years seemed to just fly by.
Very good hub, I agree with you on your assessment of today and yesterday. I wrote a similar hub, and I linked ours.
They don't call them "the good old days" for nothing, lpearce. Sure I love all the modern day conveniences, but I'll take the old days any day. I've linked this hub to my "Naked Emperor" hub about the trolley cars and the good old days in Yonkers, N.Y. Thumbs up.

so funny, isn't it that we or kids will play anything if it involves clicking! hahah
When I was raising lots of children in foster care, we found out how much exercise helped change moods as well as health of kids in need. Oh, and us "adults" as well!! Thanks for reading my hubs, I enjoyed this one.
